Program Presenters

Ann Doyle: Ann Doyle is the primary relationship manager for Internet2’s midwest and east coast university members, assessing the needs of institutions to inform Internet2’s mission and goals. She founded and continues to lead Internet2’s cultural initiatives working with U.S. and international partners utilizing advanced networks for collaborative live performances, master classes, and remote auditions in the performing arts. Ann has a Master’s degree in Higher Education Administration from the University of Michigan.

Dr. Domenico Vicinanza: Dr Domenico Vicinanza is a Senior Research Engagement Officer and the Coordinator for Arts and Humanities at GÉANT. He is also an Associate Professor of Intelligent Systems and Data Science at Anglia Ruskin University in Cambridge and holds a Specialist Certificate in Orchestration for Cinema and Television from the Berklee College of Music. His research interests are on theapplications of scientific data sonification in physics, neurobiology, and motor control. Composer and researcher in auditory display, Dr Vicinanza regularly works with organisations like CERN and NASA, creating music from scientific data. He currently holds the first Research Permit from the US National Park Service aiming at creating music from Yellowstone geothermal data. Pioneer in distributed computing technologies for science and the arts since the late 1990s, he chaired the ASTRA (Ancient instrument Sound/Timbre Reconstruction Application) project for the reconstruction of musical instruments by means of computer models using the European Grid Infrastructure.

Justin Trieger: Justin Trieger is a composer, sound designer and experienced multimedia engineer and producer. He serves as Senior Producer and
Sound Designer at the New World Symphony. In 2013, he co-founded Buskerfest Miami, a performing arts organization dedicated to improving civic life through accessible programming in public spaces.

Claudio Allocchio: Claudio Allocchio studied astrophysics and particle physics, but also music (piano). In 1985 he started his computer networking
activities at CERN and then returned to Trieste (1988). Among the founders of GARR NREN, he managed the COSINE mail gateway services (early 90s) and the Italian Naming Authority (“.it” regulator). Since 1991, he is a member of the application area directorate at IETF. He is the GARR senior technical director for advanced applications and security areas. Claudio is coordinating the development of LoLa (the low-latency videoconferencing system for performing arts education). In 2019 he was awarded the Medal of Honour from the Viesch Foundation. Since 2020 is the Chair of the GEANT Community Committee.

Milos Liska: Milos Liska is currently a researcher and head of the multimedia department with Czech NREN CESNET. He has earned his PhD. in informatics from the Masaryk University in 2010. He is interested especially in high-quality, low-latency multimedia transmissions over high-speed networks and its applications in various fields including medicine, arts, broadcasting and cinematography, sports or education including aspects such as user-empowered orchestration of large-scaled, distributed transmissions or automated user-empowered control of dynamic network infrastructures. He has been leading the development of UltraGrid since 2005 and also works on projects concerning video conferencing, web conferencing, tools for collaborative environments and collaborative workflows.

Jiri Melnikov: Jiri Melnikov is the manager of SAGElab, a joint workplace of the CESNET association and the Faculty of Information Technology of
the Czech Technical University in Prague focused on network technologies, multimedia and virtual reality. For many years he has been working on high-resolution and low-latency transmission research. He is the lead software developer of the MVTP platform used for real-time delay-critical applications.

Mount Allen III, Director of Operations, SFJAZZ:  Mount Allen advances performing arts venue participation in the research and education network (REN) eco-system. He is the Director of Operations for SFJAZZ, a first adopter of REN technology in a non-academic performing arts center environment. Mount has a master’s degree with a focus on education technology in the public assembly space from Lehigh and is in doctoral studies at
Fresno State University, with a research focus on the intersection of the cultural arts and the Research & Education Network.

Delma Rodriguez: Delma Rodriguez is an e-Culture Managing Director and visual communication academic in the field of “Theories and studies of
visuality.” Researcher in education and culture engagements mediated through the digital technologies field. She is the Director of Anilla Cultural, an organization that promotes co-creative trans-disciplinary projects at the intersection of the Arts, Science, Technology and Society through advanced internet networks with a local and global approach. She designed the project for which Uruguay became a new official node to the ring, this project aims at creating, accessing and democratizing quality contents in arts, science, technology and society in local and global advanced internet networks. The conception of Cultural Ring’s work is in the convergence of educational culture and cultural education. She has created and currently continues leading so many projects in this convergence, such as InfoArt, MuRe, museography networking, Co-creation Lab, among others.

Maria Isabel Gandia:  Maria Isabel Gandía is the Head of the Networking Unit at CSUC, the Consortium for University Services in Catalonia. At CSUC, she manages the Catalonia internet exchange, CATNIX and the regional research and education network in Catalonia, Anella Científica. She collaborated as part of the Benchmarking Club for the Euro-IX association for 7 years and she currently is a member of the Euro-IX Board. She is also a founding member of the ESNOG association (Spanish Network Operators Group). Regarding research and education, she participates in the GN4-3 (GÉANT) project and is a member of the SIG-NOC (Special Interest Group for Network Operation Centers).

Bartek Idzikowski:
(Bartek) Idzikowski is the Task Leader of the eduMEET in GÉANT. After graduating from Poznan University of Technology in 2003 (Computing Science – Computer Networks and Distributed Systems), he became PSNC employee in the organisation’s Network Department. His research interests focus on video and web conferencing, high-resolution video systems (4K, 8K), web-based applications, streaming technologies, network management and traffic monitoring. Bartłomiej’s professional background includes long-term cooperation within different European and national projects, such as GN2, GN3, GN3plus, GN4-1, GN4-2, GN4-3, 6NET, Phosphorus, Porta Optica Study, VISIONAIR, ImmersiaTV and Immersify. He was a member of the TNC programme committee in 2011, 2012 and 2013 and a member of the TERENA NRENum.net task force.

Tom Zlabinger: Dr. Tom Zlabinger holds a B.A. in music from Grinnell College and an M.A. in jazz performance from Queens College. He completed
his Ph.D. in ethnomusicology at the CUNY Graduate Center and his dissertation was entitled FREE FROM JAZZ: The Jazz and Improvised Music Scene in Vienna after Ossiach (1971-2011). He plays electric and upright bass, but is also known to play guitar and sing. He is an Associate Professor of Music at York College / CUNY in New York City. He has developed extensive curriculum on popular music performance and history. Most recently, he developed the B.Mus. in Music Education at York College / CUNY, which will launch Fall 2023. As a scholar, Tom has most recently written about music in and around media franchises, such as The Big Lebowski, Peanuts, Neil Gaiman’s Sandman, The Simpsons, Star Trek: The Next Generation, and Star Wars. Additionally, his scholarly interests include the pedagogy of improvisation, decolonization, telematic performance, and the relationships between blues, jazz, and psychedelia. He has also presented his research at national and international conferences.Tom also founded the online music school Telematic
Studios in 2022 to help musicians learn and make more music online.

Jonas Braasch: Jonas Braasch received a Master’s Degree in Physics from the Technical University of Dortmund in 1998, and two doctoral degrees
from the University of Bochum in Electrical Engineering and Information Technology in 2001 and Musicology in 2004. His research work focuses on functional models of the auditory system, large-scale immersive and interactive virtual reality systems, and intelligent music systems. Jonas Braasch worked as Assistant Professor in McGill University’s Sound Recording Program before joining Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in 2006, where he is now Professor in the Architectural Acoustics Program within the School of Architecture. At Rensselaer, he also serves as Associate Director for Research at the Experimental Media and Performing Arts Center (EMPAC). He has also serves as Associate Editor of the Journal of the Acoustical Society of America for Psychoacoustics since 2016.

Rudi E. Scheidt School of Music

Dr. Kevin Sanders: Dr. Kevin Sanders currently serves as the director of the Rudi E. Scheidt School of Music at the University of Memphis, overseeing a comprehensive program that produces 300 events per year with over 80 faculty and staff, 400+ students, and a satellite campus in Jackson, TN.
As director, Sanders led the school of music through a transformational time with the planning, construction, and grand opening of the Scheidt Family Performing Arts Center, an 82,000 sq. ft., $40 million facility boasting state-of-the-art recording studios, large rehearsal spaces, and a 900-seat concert hall. Sanders graduated from the Interlochen Arts Academy and holds degrees from Indiana University’s Jacobs School of Music, the Juilliard School, and Michigan State University, with additional certification in diversity and inclusion from Cornell University and the Management Development Program in higher education from Harvard University.

Dr. David Spencer: Professor of Music at The University of Memphis and Program coordinator for NPAPW 2023, enjoys an international reputation as a true cross-over artist and soloist, spanning the diverse musical landscape from jazz and pop music performance to orchestral and chamber music. Fanfare magazine recently said of him: “There must be trumpeters as fine as David Spencer but listening to him play you would never think so.” He is a graduate of both The Florida State University and the University of North Texas where he was a Teaching Fellow in both the Jazz Studies and Classical performance areas earning the MM and Doctor of Musical Arts degrees in both fields. He has a global career as an international soloist and teacher most recently performing recitals for the French, Norwegian, British and U.S. Embassies in Dhaka, Bangladesh. He is one of just a few musicians that have made Carnegie Hall debuts as both a classical and jazz artist. His research interests at the intersection of advanced networks and the performing arts, center on qualitative delivery and adaptive pedagogy. He has been an invited speaker in this area at the NPAPW in 2021 and 2022 as well as the John’s Hopkins/Peabody Institute.
